Rungis took over from Les Halles, in the heart of Paris. The Semmaris, a public-private company, develops and runs the market. From February 28 to March 2, 1969, the “move of the century” took Les Halles to Rungis, and the market was inaugurated on March 3, 1969.
In 2025, 1.7 million tonnes of food products arrived there, and the turnover of the market’s companies is estimated at 12 billion euros, 41% of it in fruit and vegetables. Stéphane Layani has chaired the Semmaris since June 1, 2012.
Rungis has presented LaListe’s Innovation Award since the 2021 edition: six editions, up to the 2026 International Special Awards, given at the Gala of November 24, 2025. The market hosted its guests at two tables of the LaListe Gala at the Quai d’Orsay, in 2024 and again in 2025.
